Snail, craft for toddlers

SNAIL
Craft for toddlers

Supplies :  - cardstock
                    - 2 sided tape
                    - 1 foldable straw by child
                    - black marker

Preparation

Cut 2 big strips of cardstock per child and 1 half size.  Fold 1 big strip in 2 and put 1 piece of tape on top.  Put 1 piece of tape at each end of the other big strip and 1 piece at one end of the small one.

Cut the straws to have the foldable part in the middle.  Pierce 2 holes to insert the straw.  My straws were bigger than the hole so i made a bigger one by punching 3 times.

I attached with a paper clip what a child need for the project, to facilitate the activity when the children would be waiting at the table.

One-on-one activity

I started with the big strip with 2 tapes.  I peeled 1 corner of 1 tape and asked the child to do the rest.  Then asked him/her to help me to loop it and stick it on the tape.  Next we do the same with the small one.  Then we peeled the tape inside the big loop and instruct the child to stick the small one in the big one.

Peel the folded one and stick the house of the snail on its back.  Give the straw and instruct to insert it in 1 hole then they'll need help to fold and do the other one.

Draw the eyes on the tips of the straw and a mouth.

There you have it.

This year I have a younger group and I simplified it:

SENSORY TABLE WITH WHITE STUFF IN IT  Measurement (math) activity (Cognitive) for toddlers  If you don't have a sensory table you can use trays or any shallow containers.  We put rice, cornstarch and salt.  We used it for measurement activity and during centers time for Initiative.  It always a popular one in my classroom.

S'more book for toddlers

S'more book for toddlers A print concepts activity I had so much fun doing this project during nap.  I'd like to encourage you to draw even if you think you are bad at it.  Most of us draw like a 12 years old because it is when we stopped. I saw on pinterest a similar book but it was for preschool therefore too advanced for my kids so I came up with this one.  I Google hazelnut drawing and to my surprise I found something and same thing with marsmallow fluff.  I chose the simplest one and tried to replicated it.  Well I'm happy with the result. The coloring part was fun too.
